Scott Winters, Chairman
Scott's (EQIS Holdings, Inc.) multi-decade career in financial services has spanned the largest wire house firms to the independent channel. As a top advisor, trainer, and manager of advisors, he continuously rewrote the book on the use of technology by advisors. Examples of his approach include increasing efficiency with practice management systems, improving client relations by using customer relationship management (CRM) software, and use of tools for analyzing investors’ costs and asset allocations. Scott's vision in founding EQIS was and is to empower advisors with all the resources, guidance, and technology that they need to perfectly serve their clients with the utmost trust, competence, and confidence. Scott earned a BA in business economics from San Diego State University.
Jeff Cohen, Board Member
Jeff Cohen began his formal education in Florida where he attended Florida Atlantic University after skipping his first two years of college. Two and a half years later he received a Bachelor’s degree in history and a minor in taxation. He received his CLU designation from the American College.
Jeff has been in the financial services industry for over 40 years. During that time he has been a wealth transfer specialist for affluent families, the developer of unique tax concepts utilized by thousands of individuals and their advisors and the president of a New England-based life insurance company. He has also developed unique financial and investment strategies designed to provide reasonable returns with downside protection in volatile markets. He is currently a Registered Investment Advisor.
Lee Chertavian, Board Member
Lee Chertavian has extensive experience in starting and running financial services and technology companies. Most recently, he was the Chairman and CEO of Placemark Investments, a SAAS-based financial technology/ investment firm. Placemark was backed by several prominent venture firms including Flybridge, Ascent, North Hill and RBC Ventures. Lee managed the growth of Placemark to nearly $16 billion in assets under management (AUM) from over 45,000 clients and led its successful sale to publicly traded Envestnet (NYSE:ENV).
Prior to Placemark, Lee was one of the earliest executives at Affiliated Managers Group (NYSE: AMG). Lee helped lead AMG’s growth from $1 billion in AUM over $92 billion in AUM during which time the firm also went public. Before AMG, Lee started several companies for privately held Trans National Group including a mutual fund company and credit card companies in Canada, the United Kingdom, France and Germany. He served as a consultant for Bain and Company and held positions with Fidelity Investments, Bankers Trust Company and Equitable Life. He currently also serves on the board of New England Pension.
Lee has an MBA, with distinction (top 10% of class) from Harvard Business School and a BA, cum laude, from Bowdoin College. He and his wife reside in Sherborn, MA.
William R. Nelson, PhD, Board Member
Rob's (EQIS Capital Management, Inc.) expertise is his unique and valuable insight into portfolio engineering and investment selection. He combines the critical combination of hands-on trading experience with high academic rigor and achievement. As a member of the Chicago Board of Trade, he made markets in financial futures, learning the intricacies of supply and demand. His outstanding academic performance and respected research led to a professional appointment in the Department of Finance and Managerial Economics at the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Management. Dr. Nelson has published in the American Economic Review, Public Choice, De Paul Journal of Health Care Law, International Conference on Information Technology ITCC 2004 Proceedings, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization, Latin American Finance and Capital Markets, and Latin American Law and Business Report, among others. Rob has a PhD in economics from George Mason University and a BS from San Diego State University. He also maintains his FINRA Series 65 securities license.
Jennifer Winters, Board Member
Jennifer (EQIS Capital Management, Inc.) has over 18 years of experience in financial services compliance, operations, and technology. At EQIS she designs and implements internal controls, policies, and procedures to help assure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations and third-party guidelines; manages audits and investigations into regulatory and compliance issues; and responds to requests for information from regulatory bodies. She holds a BA degree from Lewis University.
Jim Brown, Board Member
Jim co-founded Long Ridge in 2007 and serves as Managing Partner. Prior to founding Long Ridge, Jim was a Senior Partner at TH Lee Putnam Ventures, a $1.1B growth capital firm, where he led the firm’s financial services investment efforts. Prior to joining THLPV, Jim served as a Senior Vice President of GE Equity where he led investments in financial services, technology, consumer and media companies. Prior to joining GE Equity, Jim worked at Lehman Brothers as a Vice President and at Bain & Company as a Consultant.
Jim received a B.S. from New York University and an M.B.A. with Honors from the Wharton Business School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Kevin Bhatt, Board Member
Kevin joined Long Ridge in 2010 and serves as a Partner. Prior to joining Long Ridge, Kevin was a Vice President with AEA Investors, a leading middle market private equity firm. Prior to joining AEA Investors, Kevin was an associate at TH Lee Putnam Ventures, where he served as a member of the firm’s financial services and business services teams. Prior to joining THLPV, Kevin worked at McKinsey & Company, where he was a member of the Financial Services Group.
Kevin received a B.A. in Economics with Honors from Princeton University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
